Newfoundland is our home. It's glorious in the warmer months, but we prefer to be elsewhere during the cold. We love rural/remote and out-of-the-way places, but interesting urban areas are great too.

The animals. Really getting to know new and interesting places; not just as tourists, but as temporary residents. But mostly, the animals.

We are former full-time sailors, now turned Newfoundland outport dwellers. Although we love our little remote home, it can be tough in the winter. So we’re on the lookout for a cold-weather dwelling elsewhere in Canada.

Both of us are pretty handy, love rural/remote living, and enjoy animals of all sorts. Our various sits have had us looking everything from small urban homes, to operating cattle ranches. Both of us are pretty handy, love rural/remote living, and enjoy animals of all sorts. Our various sits have had us looking everything from small urban homes, to operating cattle ranches. We have our own vehicle, and are free to go wherever the wind blows. Serious winters are no problem -- we have plenty of experience with cold and snow.

Our current home is now in the small island community of Ramea, Newfoundland. We plan to enjoy the warm months in our little outport town, and house/animal sit through the cold. We enjoy getting to know an area and a community, so prefer long-term house/farm sits. But interesting urban areas have their own charm.

We are generally available from about October to May, give or take a few weeks.

Pet care

We both enjoy spending time with, and looking after, all types of animals. From cats and dogs, to birds, horses, donkeys and cows, we've had the privilege of serving many.

We have looked after a small herd of beef cows on a commercial ranch, as well smaller hobby farms with horses and donkeys. We have experience running medium-sized tractors, including the use of loaders, hitches, and snow plows, mowers, etc.

This was our first time having house sitters and we were very lucky to get Mike and Ann to take care of our house and our 3 cats. They were here from Dec 7 to 23 while we were away in the Caribbean. They took great care of our cats and shared photos and videos with us while we were away. It was nice to see how well the cats bonded with them and that they went the extra mile to play with and entertain them. Mike and Ann are a lovely couple. We had Mike and Ann care for our home, 5 cats and two small puppies from Oct 23 - Nov 9th, 2022. Our young pups weren't fully house trained yet so we were expecting them to revert in several areas. They don't do change well at all. Their routine isn't easy either as they wake at 5am and needed lots of attention and care. There were also two cats the she shed office space they cared for daily along with our three inside. When we arrived home our house was in order, pets were happy and we ... When we arrived home our house was in order, pets were happy and we were thrilled. We could tell by our notifications from our cameras, they followed our pet schedule completely. Our pups didn't revert at all which was amazing!! We are so very pleased with the sit with Mike and Ann. We have already asked them back for our next vacation. Highly recommend them.

We consider ourselves so fortunate to have had Mike and Ann stay in our house while we were away in the Caribbean. They are such an amazing couple who we very much enjoyed the night before our trip when they came for dinner and to learn all the inner workings of our home. They seemed to truly engage with our cats and the cats with them. With COVID it was a challenging time to be out of the country (after we left the virus surged) and there were days when the only certainty we had about our ... They are such an amazing couple who we very much enjoyed the night before our trip when they came for dinner and to learn all the inner workings of our home. They seemed to truly engage with our cats and the cats with them. With COVID it was a challenging time to be out of the country (after we left the virus surged) and there were days when the only certainty we had about our return was that Mike and Ann were taking care of our homefront. They e-mailed daily and we looked forward to their cheery informative messages. If the world of travel ever returns we would be more than thrilled to have them sit for us again and we look forward to having them just come for a visit.

Mike and Ann did a wonderful job. We have quite a few animals, and we are so impressed the way they looked after our home and pets. We had some health issues with a cat and horse, but they were amazing, doing medications for 1 chihuahua, 1 cat and extra feed for the horse in questionl. We can't thank them enough.
