Our home

We live in a one bedroom apartment in a historic walk-up building near Jarvis & Carlton in downtown Toronto. We're on the 2nd floor with stairs being the only way in - a short flight outside and a short flight inside. Once inside, it's quite spacious with an open concept and plenty of natural light throughout the living room and bathroom. The kitchen is fully furnished with a gas stove and dishwasher, and lots of tea options. The bathroom has a shower (no bathtub) and ensuite laundry.

For entertainment, we have many books and boardgames with a large dining table. We have a TV and DVD player and you can cast to the tv from your device through a connected chrome cast, but we don't have cable or streaming subscriptions.

We're on a very busy street and our windows are overlooking a parking lot with surrounding brick walls so it's not the best view and there is light and noise at all times of the day and night. Thankfully, the bedroom with our queen bed is internal so it's a bit darker but still won't be enjoyable for people who need complete darkness and silence to sleep!

favoriteWhat we love about our area

There is no parking, but everything you need is within walking distance. We mostly walk or bike around the city and there's a bike share dock across the street. There are also bus and streetcar stops within a block and the main subway line (Yonge/line 1) is a 10 minute walk away.

Our pets

Our 2 cats, Bauble & Trinket, are 6 years old and need care multiple times a day so it always works best to have someone stay here while we're away.

They are fed 4 times a day, twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon/evening but the times can be flexible to suit any plans you have in the city. Bauble doesn't have any teeth and only eats wet food; Trinket has a couple kernels of dry with every meal to even out her calories.

Required: Bauble receives an inhaler every morning.

Optional: We brush their fur every morning to reduce the loose fur around the apartment and brush Trinket's teeth every evening, but these can be skipped occasionally.

Bauble requires an inhaler every morning, and we brush Trinket's teeth daily. These have been part of their regular routine for years so they're very compliant and we've had a number of people learn how to do it successfully so no previous experience is required.

Caring for Bauble and Trinket while Sara and Duncan were away for the weekend was great! All the details needed for the kitties care were in a website (videos included!) Before they left we went through the most important things (puffer, meals, a tour of the place, etc). Communication throughout was very good. Bauble and Trinket were so sweet and peaceful (very playful once they warmed up to me). It was a very enjoyable stay with them.
Sara and Duncan were amazing hosts. Communication was super easy - they set up a WhatsApp group and were always available for questions. The web-based information they provided was unbelievably detailed and easy to follow with everything you'd ever want to know about caring for the cats, their home and the neighborhood. The home is beautiful - spotless, well appointed and comfortable. It is in an amazing area of town filled with shops, restaurants and everything within walking distance. ...
