Pet sitting & House sitting job in South & Calgary
South & Calgary - Calgary
If you love nature, peace and quiet, and animals (domestic and wild), this might be your winter dream house/petsitting job. I live on 20 very private, treed acres in a log house, with an affection-seeking, medium-sized dog and six senior/"special needs" horses. Deer and fox are common visitors; moose occasionally wander by.
Recreational activities are right on the doorstep, from walking through the woods on the property, to skating on the frozen pond below the house, or cross-country skiing on the river just beyond that. You'd be able to get to the mountains for a day of downhill skiing, winter hiking, or ice-climbing and still make it home for dinner.
If you prefer to enjoy the stillness, the house is bursting with books and a decent selection of DVDs; you can be cozy inside with the two wood-burning stoves (in addition to the furnace), one on the main floor and one in the loft bedroom/ sitting area. Be as much of a recluse as you choose! The hamlet of Water Valley is five minutes away, with amenities like a general store and saloon; the fully equipped town of Cochrane is a twenty-minute drive; Calgary is one hour away; and the mountains (Kananaskis, Canmore, Banff) are about an hour and a half from home.
The horses are all retired and love attention, and it would be helpful to have some experience in caring for them. The dog is a rescue from Mexico, of an unknown age--she adores people but not other dogs. She is a great walking (or movie-watching) companion.
Given the length of stay (~ 3 months) and the horse care, this would be an ideal situation for a reasonably fit couple.
