My home base is in Vancouver, Canada, but I can housesit anywhere provided I have good Internet. I love gardening and animal care and don't need lots of amenities - just a quiet, safe place to work, and the company of loving animals. Occasionally my daughter, Alyssa, professor of marine sciences and also a longtime housesitter, joins me during her summer holidays to enjoy time together.
Why I want to house sit
I am semi-retired now but use my background as a biologist, librarian, and nurse to do contract work as a scientific editor. My four children are grown and pursuing their careers in different parts of the world, so I am free to travel. It is so much more interesting for me to live in one place and explore it for awhile than to just pass through as a tourist.
I am passionate about gardens, and previous housesitting assignments have given me opportunities to care for gardens in different seasons and climates. I still enjoy learning about plants, even after a lifetime of master gardening. I am happy to care for yours with love and attention, and I may be a granny but I have no problem with mowers and hedge trimmers. I am retired but stay fit and active with biking, swimming, pickleball, hiking, Nordic poling and yoga.
What I bring to the assignment - relevant experience
I have worked on the east and west coasts of United States and Canada, and have lived in France, Switzerland, Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia and Africa. Travels have taken me to many other places, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Iceland, Fiji and much of Europe. I'm fluent in English and French and understand some Spanish.
As a mother and grandma who has cared for many children and pets, I am very responsible and pay attention to details. Homeowners appreciate the love and attention I give to the properties and pets left in my care, especially since I maintain pet routines as best I can. I don't smoke or drink and enjoy quiet evenings, cooking a nice meal, cuddling with a cat, walking the dog, taking care of fish, rabbits, chickens, lizards, and other animals you may have.
